I had two articles in Variety earlier this month.
In its “Consumer Electronics Show 2012” special section, I wrote UltraViolet: The story so far. In it, I describe UltraViolet (in brief, it’s a cloud-based digital locker for movies and TV shows that all the MPAA studios, except Disney, is promoting as a means to make this type of content portable) and the challenges faced in adopting it as a platform the way VHS, DVD and Blu-ray has been.

Then in its “CES Daily Spotlight, The Future of 3D” special section, I wrote Streaming emerges as 3D option. It’s pretty self-explanatory. I think 3D will eventually have the impact color had on filmmaking, but like color (which wasn’t adopted en masse as sound was), directors, writers and so forth are still figuring out how to use it.
I’m excited to see how The Great Gatsby (in 3D) turns out. And I can’t wait to see how someone like Terrence Malick or Kelly Reichardt might use it.
Cool post!
